Micro/small-scale wind turbine systems

Micro and small-scale turbine systems make use of the natural wind resource to generate electricity.

A basic wind turbine operates on the principle that wind passing across the rotor blades of a turbine causes a ‘lift’ and ‘drag’ effect which in turn cause the turbine hub to rotate. The turbine hub is connected to a generator that produces electricity.

Wind turbines can be connected to the electricity supply grid or to storage batteries.

To guide you through these, the National Skills Academy have recently produced a series of consumer guides.
