Ground source heat pumps

A ground source heat pump (GSHP) should operate in a similar way to air source heat pump but instead of extracting heat from the external air, a ground source heat pump extracts heat either from shallow ground that has been heated by the sun or from a geothermal heat source.

The heat collector circuit can be installed horizontally (shallow ground) or vertically in one or more boreholes.

To guide you through these, the National Skills Academy have recently produced a series of consumer guides.
