Solar Photovoltaics

In the move to greener energy, solar panels, or solar photovoltaic (PV) systems are becoming commonplace. Therefore, there is a need for skilled technicians to carry out installation and maintenance of these solar PV systems. The National Skills Academy for Environmental Technologies provides solar PV training courses in both installation and maintenance.

Level 3 Award – Installation of Small Scale Solar Photovoltaic (PV)Systems

This course covers training for the installation of small scale solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, including:

  • Theoretical understanding of the requirements to install, commission and handover small scale solar photovoltaic (PV) systems
  • Practical training for the installation, commissioning and handover small scale solar photovoltaic (PV) systems

Level 3 Award - Installation and Maintenance of Small Scale Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems

This course covers training for the installation and maintenance of small scale solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, including:

  • Theoretical understanding of the requirements to install, commission and handover small scale solar photovoltaic (PV) systems
  • Practical training for the installation, commissioning and handover small scale solar photovoltaic (PV) systems
  • Knowledge of the requirements for inspecting, servicing and maintaining small scale solar photovoltaic (PV) systems
  • Practical small scale solar photovoltaic (PV) systems

The solar PV installation award is an integral requirement of the solar PV installation and maintenance qualification. If the solar PV installation award has already been completed as a stand-alone qualification, it will be credited and the course time reduced accordingly.

For both qualifications, the Level 3 Award in Understanding the Fundamental Principles and Requirements of Environmental Technology Systems is an integral requirement of the award but will be credited if you have already completed it as a stand-alone award, or have achieved it within another technology.

Solar PV courses entry requirements

  • N/SVQ 3 in Electrical Installation, approved equivalent or ECS card
  • BS 7671: 2008 Requirements for Electrical Installations (17th Edition) Certification
If you're unable to meet these entry requirements, your local hub will be able to help with additional assessment and training if required.

Assessment for each course is via a practical assessment and an online test.

Your local hub will be able to help you find the training for the skills you need.
