Green Deal

The Green Deal

What is the Green Deal?

The Green Deal is the Government’s main vehicle to cut energy bills and carbon emissions from buildings by making energy efficiency easy and affordable for householders, tenants and businesses. The Green Deal scheme makes funding available and the money borrowed is repaid over a number of years from the savings on the energy bills.

To be eligible for the Green Deal the proposed energy efficiency improvement measure will need to meet the 'Golden Rule' - the expected saving from the improvement measure(s) must be equal to or greater than the cost of the measure.

The Green Deal scheme can only be accessed through an authorised Green Deal Provider. The scheme requires that and assessment of the property is undertaken by a certificated Green Deal Advisor and requires that a certificated Green Deal Installer is used to install the measures. All parties must follow the Green Deal Code of Practice.

The Department for Energy Climate and Change (DECC)  have produced an animation explaining how the Green Deal works click here.
