Overview

Approximately 8% of the heat that is lost from
an uninsulated home is lost through the ground floor.

Insulating the ground floor will save energy and may also help to reduce draughts too. Rigid or quilt type insulation can be fixed using a suitable support system between the floor joists just below the floorboards. Solid floors can also be insulated by installing a layer of insulation above the floor surface.

To guide you through these, the National Skills Academy have recently produced a series of consumer guides.
